These days I am rarely a game master for RPGs. Currently I am creating a run for #shadowrun which is called “The Humanis Policlub Took My Baby Away”. And I just noticed that this is the third run in a row where the objective is to free someone or something. I really need to change this for the next run. All runs are one-shots created like half a year apart, so it didn´t really occur to me that I am always doing some kind of the same objective.

I ran Saturday my first half-marathon and now I am in bed probably with Corona (someone close has it and developed symptoms a couple of days before me). If the symptoms would have started a day earlier I wouldn’t have been able to run. Lucky me I guess.

I just finished The Lost Cause, the newest book by @pluralistic@mamot.fr an d it is great. A book of hope playing in a dystopian near future that could be really our future. Interesting characters and as always interesting ideas.

Day 29 of #RPGaDay: Most memorable encounter: The one were we played DnD with higher level characters and the game master designed an encounter with skeletons - scaled to our level. So we fought like a hundred or two hundred skeletons. Took a while and was more fun than expected.

Day 28 of #RPGaDay Scariest game you played: That was a session of a self-designed game from a game master at a convention set in a Ravenloft-style setting. We were in a neon-lit crafts room but the GM was so good that it was still very scary. One of the best sessions I was ever part of.

Day 27 of #RPGaDay Game you’d like a new edition of: A new edition of “Mutant Chronicles” would be neat. New full-colored books, more modern mechanics but leave the character creation more or less alone. I had so much fun generating characters together with friends because of the life-path system.

Day 26 of #RPGaDay Favorite Character Sheet: I really like the character sheets of the World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf etc). 1 page, all information you need, styled for the game.

I hate glueing together tabletop minis. Warhammer 40k-minis are even worse than Star Wars-Minis (except those battle droids maybe). And all for the kids…

Day 24 of #RPGaDay Most complex/simple RPG you play Complex: Shadowrun - 6th edition got less crunchier than previous editions but not necessarily less complex. Simple: I cheat here because I don’t actually play it anymore. But I played for a while “Hero Kids” with my sons but they grew out of it.

Desktop #Linux-distributions that block mDNS (UDP/5353) by default are something that I don’t understand.

Day 23 of #RPGaDay Coolest Looking RPG product: when I look at the whole product, I think it is something like modern game master screens with the art over the whole width and sometimes great art on the inside. Especially the ones from DnD and the SR-GM screen.

Day 22 of #RPGaDay Best secondhand purchase: That would be “The Security Handbook” for Shadowrun. This book really helped me out back then to flesh out my runs and how to think about securing those corporation-buildings.

Day 21 of #RPGaDay Favorite licensed RPG: Alien RPG is just awesome. One of the best RPGs I’ve ever played.

Beware: When you buy books from HumbleBundle it can happen that those are only keys for Kobo. And those books are protected by Adobe DRM. It just happened to me and now I need to figure out how I can get them onto my devices (please don´t try to help me; I will find a way). #fuckDRM

Day 19 of #RPGaDay Favorite Published Adventure: Hope’s Last Day for Alien RPG That is the adventure in the core rule book of Alien RPG. I ran it twice for different groups and both times it was awesome. It had a great atmosphere, the right length and I would run it again.

NixOS looks more and more interesting. But what I already dislike is how often I read how bad the documentation is and that googling is usually the way to go. Why can’t there be a Linux-distribution with documentation like the BSDs?

Day 14 of #RPGaDay Favorite convention purchase: the last convention I was at, was the first one where Inbought something. So this is easy: a used Civilization-board game I still have to try it out though.

Day 13 of #RPGaDay Most memorable character demise: we nearly made it and a spontaneous solo effort of a player lead to a TPK in the final session of the campaign. Nobody understands why he did it. If he would have done nothing, we would have been in the clear.

Day 12 of #RPGaDAY Old game you still play: I play unfortunately rarely thus I play what I can. So most of the time it is DnD 5e and outside of this it is usually newer stuff like Shadowrun 6, Alien RPG or something Powered by the Apocalypse. So no old games I play these days.

Real vacation. I am close to 4 books in 7 days.

I am seriously thinking about getting an Android-phone as my next phone (Fairphone 4 with e/OS) even though I am so invested in the Apple-eco system. I’d really like to see what the level of sustainability of current iPhones is. The last report I found from Greenpeace was from 2017.

I dont know the name but it was a small indenpendently never published game that dosnt use dice but some mechanism for shifting your values in attack and defense and did some cool stuff without any dice for skill checks (which I cant remember unfortunately)

After several weeks with #OpenSuse Tumbleweed it still feels a bit weird. Especially how repos are handled and how often I have to take care about dependency conflicts. I can’t remember when I had such problems in the past. And without the repos I miss some software (like codecs). #linux

Ok. My #shadowrun-mission yesterday was so good that Shadowrun has now at least three more players. They directly bought a 5th edition rulebook because that was the only one available at the convention and want to buy a 6th edition one. Nice 😊 #ttrpg

And judging from the age of the convention-participants, #ttrpg have at least in Germany a real problem in terms of finding new players. I guess that most attendees were between 35 and 45 or something like this. Some might be bit younger, some a bit older. Nearly no younger people attended.

#Shadowrun at the #Sonnencon was fun. I definitely will keep the run for a later occasion and I might use the pre-gens myself. They worked out pretty well. The players said they had fun, too. My biggest surprise was that only one played SR before and the others only heard a little bit about it.

Btw. I solved today a problem that brought down a complex system for a whole day by setting a single sysctl-value. I re-installed a bunch of systems with the same function, so that they all run on the same distribution and all hell breaks loose. I couldn’t find what the difference was to before and of course it only appeared in its whole glory after I set up all the systems.

I wanted to try a todo-app after some years again because merge-conflicts in my org-files got annoying again. First reminders do not work and then it crashes each time when I try to turn a task into a project.

Today I found nb. A nifty shell-script for note-taking in markdown. But it can also grab and convert websites and add them as notes. But with a server and Shellfish for iOS I created a shortcut that adds websites from Safari. And I have the notes on my phone thanks to Working Copy.

TIL: there is an app like Dash (macOS) but for #Linux zealdocs.org I use Dash nearly every day and Zeal makes a pretty good impression so far. It downloads documentation in the form of docsets and makes it easily searchable offline.

We got a used PS4 and with the internal 500GB-HDD you can have like 3 games on it without deleting anything. And I didn’t even try Red Dead Redemption 2 (at least 109GB) or Black Ops which needs at least 190GB.
